这个俚语源于 18 世纪早期，那时候的农民发现春天出生的鸡比冬天出生的鸡卖得更好。毕竟在春天，刚出生的鸡是嫩鸡，冬天的鸡已经是老鸡了。到后来，人们就用 spring chicken 来表示“年轻人”，还可以表示“没有经验的人”。
不过如果是在说菜名，那 spring chicken 意思就是“童子鸡、仔鸡、嫩鸡”，不一定是春天的鸡。“烤仔鸡”就可以说 roasted spring chicken。

春困
fever /'fiːvə/ 是“发烧”，但 have a spring fever 不是“春天发烧”，它有两种意思，第一种是“春燥症”，指的是春天天气一回温，人们就突然觉得精力充沛，想出去户外活动。
第二种意思和第一种正相反，表示“春困”，指人们到了春天就感到困倦、疲乏、想睡觉。
